How to use it well
What it's good for
- Background tasks. Each Bot works on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, files and a terminal, and per the docs work continues while your laptop is closed.
- Research. Ask a Bot to dig through websites and documents and come back with a summary, a table or a file.
- Routines and schedules. A routine tells a Bot when to run a workflow: on a schedule or, where supported, after an event. Schedules must be at least five minutes apart.
- Connectors. Supported services such as Gmail, Notion and Slack can be added as connectors. The docs recommend a connector over clicking through a website when one exists. Connectors are account-wide, so every Bot can use them.
- Its own computer and browser. For sites without a connector, a Bot can use the browser on its computer. Sites can still block automation or need a human step, and the Bot hands those steps back to you.
- Teams of Bots. You can keep several named Bots with different jobs. They can run in parallel, message each other and share context in group chats. They share one computer, including files and logins, so treat anything on it as visible to all your Bots.
How to point it at a site or a task
- Message the Bot with the outcome you want and the address of the site or the files involved.
- Connect the apps it needs from Connect apps, then type
@in chat to attach a connector to the task. - Let it work. It keeps you updated in the conversation and comes back when something needs your approval.
- When a task works reliably, save the method as a skill (type
/to reuse it), then schedule it as a routine.
Good example tasks
- "Check these 40 links on our site every morning and send me a list of any that are broken."
- "Read this week's emails from suppliers and put the price changes in a spreadsheet."
- "Research five scheduling tools for a restaurant and compare their published prices in a table."
- "Draft replies to the three customer questions in my inbox. Don't send them."
- "Every Monday, summarize last week's new signups and post the count to my notes."
Tips
- Give a clear outcome. Say what done looks like: a file, a table, a draft, a list.
- Give context. Share the links, accounts, examples and limits it needs up front.
- Use routines for repeat work. Make a one-time task reliable first, save it as a skill, then automate it. Use Test run after creating or editing a routine.
- Review drafts before anything is sent. The docs suggest having the Bot draft or recommend first and requiring approval for sending, purchasing, deleting or publishing.
